PARENTING WORKSHOP: Math Education Ain’t What it Used to Be

Thursday November 23rd, 2017
6:30-7:30pm in the Senior Gym (Exit #5)

Trevor Brown – math professor, author, and former Math Consultant for the TDSB – is coming to Runnymede PS for an informative, interactive, and fun-filled evening of math! The workshop is the first in our two-part Math Education Speaker Series: Learning Mathematics in an Ever-Changing World.

Mr. Brown is a sought-after presenter who is well-versed in the Ministry of Education’s Renewed Math Strategy.

What to expect:

  • Find out about the paradigm shift in how math is being taught today vs. in the past
  • Learn about the math manipulatives being used in Grades 1 and 2: the Ten Frame and the Rekenrek (similar to an abacus)
  • There will be math manipulatives for sale at the workshop for $3.00

Note: This workshop will be geared towards the parents of Primary (Grade 1-3) students, but all are welcome to attend.

Funding has been generously provided by a PRO (Parents Reaching Out) Grant.

The Parent Council meeting will follow in the gym at 7:30.

Thank you for your interest in the Workshop.  RSVP’s are now closed.

Everyone from the Runnymede community is welcome, regardless of RSVP and there will be math manipulatives and resources available for purchase at the workshop.
