Parent Council Meeting Thursday, September 18th

Welcome Back!   We hope that you and your children have had a good first week of school.   It certainly doesn’t feel like fall just yet . . .

Our first Parent Council meeting of the new year will be held in the School Library on September 18th at 7pm.   Please see the attached draft agenda  and updated draft of the Runnymede Public School Constitution. Please remember that this meeting is actually two meetings in one – the last council meeting of the 2013/2014 school year and the first meeting of the 2014/2015 school year.  Babysitting will be available.   Room to be confirmed.

There are two open positions for Executive Council this year:  Co-Chair & Treasurer.   Please let us know if you are interested in one of these positions.

We look forward to seeing you on the 18th!

Sincerely,
Jennifer Atkinson & Erin Carroll
Co-Secretaries

Important information for the Fall:

Fundraising at Runnymede

Our SIMPLIFIED fundraising strategy was a success last year: we raised $71,440! So, this year we will do it again. Donation envelopes will be distributed in October for parents to return with a recommended per-child donation of $50. We thank you and look forward to your support of our simplified fundraising!

Additionally, the school receives a percentage of sales from QSP Magazines. If you need magazines, please visit the school website under Hot Topics to make your purchase and support the school at the same time!

Pizza Lunch Program

Every year, dedicated volunteers organize a monthly pizza lunch for any students who wish to participate in this excellent break from lunch box blues.  A link will be available next week for enrolment in this fundraising event.

Lost & Found Process

Lost & Found is located on the main floor outside of Room 126.  Please talk with your children about keeping track of their belongings but also please be aware that items can go missing through no fault of your child!  It will be easier to find lost items – especially lunch bags – if you label items with your child’s name and classroom number. Want to help with the Lost & Found?  Please contact us at runnymedeps@gmail.com and we’ll direct you to the Lost & Found team.

Spirit Committee Year in Review

Thanks to your generosity, $71,440 was raised by the Spirit Committee. Funds raised have been allocated by School Council to benefit our children in the following ways: Parents continued to support a simplified fundraising plan that relied heavily on annual direct donations of $50/child:

Runnymede Students Audition at Massey Hall

Runnymede Junior and Senior Public School had over 30 students audition for and get invited to participate in the 128th Spring Festival Concert at Massey Hall this year. This concert series has been running since before the First World War, and has a long and proud tradition of excellent music making!

Our students participated in four ensembles this year: The All-City Strings, All-City Band, All-City Orchestra and Runnymede Brass Ensembles

Runnymede has long participated in and been a supporter of this prestigious event at Massey Hall. It is always an honour and privilege to perform on the stage that has played host to everyone from the Toronto Symphony Orchestra to Charlie Parker, Bob Dylan and world heavyweight champion, Jack Dempsey as referee.
