Creative Careers Day, June 20 – Looking for Parent Volunteers

On Wednesday, June 20th, the Arts committee and the school are working together to run a Careers Day for Grade 7 students that is focused on alternative and artistic careers. This will be the second year of this inspiring event. In order to make this day a success, we need parent volunteers to help!

Volunteers are needed in the following ways:

1. Panelists to share their creative/artistic/alternative career on Wed, June 20 Time commitment: from 9:00-3:00 (lunch provided!) OR possibly just a morning or an afternoon

2. Support volunteers to facilitate workshops and generally support the event throughout the day
Time commitment: 9:00-3:00 if you have the time, OR just the morning or the afternoon.

Please contact Alice Bell if you are interested in helping.

Thank you everyone for all your support for the arts endeavours this year!

Free Swim to Survive Lessons

We thought Runnymede families might be interested in this:

The Lifesaving Society is providing free Swim to Survive swimming lessons to the community. CUPE4400 has again partnered with LSS to fund this valuable program. They are hosting the program at 4 locations:

  1. Downsview SS
  2. Carleton Village PS
  3. Central Tech
  4.  RH King Academy

The program is geared to 7 – 14 year olds, but they are offering it to anyone over the age of 7 who would like to attend. They offer adults classes as well as family slots. Parents will have their own class while their children participate in the class that best suits their skill level. Over the last 2 years that this program has been offered, adults have expressed a great interest in learning how to survive an unexpected fall into the water. They piloted an adult class last year and it was well received and attended.

Please check out the attached Swim to Survive flyer. If you cannot attend the registration (or it has already occurred) you can register via the email provided.
