Western Technical Commercial School hosts Runnymede

wtcs-crestRunnymede Robotics would like to thank the teachers who made their competitive team possible this year: Mme. Post, from Runnymede, and Mr. Wang, the robotics mentor from Western Technical-Commercial School. Thanks also to Runnymede VP Ms. Wawrow for her guidance, and WTCS‘s Principal Pang for her gracious support. We are lucky to have WTCS as our neighbour.

WTCS kindly provided the space for the Runnymede team. And what a space it is! WTCS has the best-equipped robotics lab in the TDSB, and their Robotics team is regularly one of the top performers in the First Robotics Competition (FRC). WTCS students gave Runnymede students demonstrations of their exciting robots and robotic equipment in the lab.

Check out the STEM page to read the whole story and see pictures.

During our season, WTCS provided high school-aged robotics students, Asha Mills-Emmett and Ethan Kulish as mentors to guide Runnymede students in planning missions, designing and programming. These students are part of WTCS’ Engineering Robotics and Design Studio programs.

Robotics is one of the many real world applications available for all students at WTCS to apply their skills and knowledge. To find out more about Engineering Robotics and other amazing programs at WTCS click here.

Happy 100th Birthday Runnymede!

February 1st, 2016 marks the Centennial for our beloved Runnymede Junior and Senior Public School.  Parent Council would like to wish RPS a Happy Birthday!

To celebrate, we invite you to take a look back at Runnymede Public School in the news from 1916 to 1939.  Our school has a long and interesting history in the neighbourhood.

Runnymede Public School in the News was created by Kate Stacey.

Lost and Found Clear Out Dates

With cold, wet winter weather comes the need for kids to come to school with more gear. With more gear comes an increased opportunity to lose things. Runnymede School Council would like to remind parents and caregivers that the bins for lost and found items are located on the main floor of the school, in front of Room 126. There are also lost and found bins both inside and outside the lunchrooms (cafeteria and junior gym) in the basement.

The upcoming dates for clear out are:
January 29
February 26
March 24
April 29
May 27
June 29
(These are the same days as Grade 1-8 Pizza Lunch)

For sanitary reasons, lunch/food containers are thrown away every Friday.

We would like to thank the small team of parents who spend a couple of hours each Friday scouring the entire school picking up lost items and sorting and package items for donation on clear out days.

We welcome assistance with Lost and Found as our current team is looking to hand the duties over for next year. You can contact us via the Runnymede Parent Council website or reach out to this year’s parent lead Jen Atkinson.
