Upcoming Vote for Ward 7 Trustee

Irene Atkinson, our Ward 7 Trustee for the past 40+ years, is retiring and there are seven candidates running to serve as our Trustee for the next four years.

With so many important issues facing the TDSB, casting informed votes in the Municipal Election on Monday October 27th is imperative.

Please visit our Ward 7 page for information on the Trustee role and what is expected of people who serve as Trustees.

And, finally, here are websites for each of the five trustee candidates:

Jeffrey Freeman

Robin Pilkey

Marcela Saitua

Linda Torry

Gordon Foster

Noel Kent

Jim Henderson

*Jeffrey Freeman, Robin Pilkey & Marcela Saitua were at the Colbeck crosswalk in June.  Gordon Foster was at the Colbeck crosswalk on September 11th. Linda Torry was at the Colbeck crosswalk on September 12th.

Breakfast Television Visits Runnymede

On Wednesday, September 10th, Runnymede had a *surprise* visit from Jennifer Valentyne and the Breakfast Television crew who came to make a special announcement.

Through the efforts of our STEM Committee, Best Buy and Geek Squad have generously donated and installed a new broadcast studio in the former computer lab located in the library.

“I think it’s awesome and it’s a lot of new technology that is going to be beneficial for the school.” Lincoln, Grade 6

Parent Council Meeting Thursday, September 18th

Welcome Back!   We hope that you and your children have had a good first week of school.   It certainly doesn’t feel like fall just yet . . .

Our first Parent Council meeting of the new year will be held in the School Library on September 18th at 7pm.   Please see the attached draft agenda  and updated draft of the Runnymede Public School Constitution. Please remember that this meeting is actually two meetings in one – the last council meeting of the 2013/2014 school year and the first meeting of the 2014/2015 school year.  Babysitting will be available.   Room to be confirmed.

There are two open positions for Executive Council this year:  Co-Chair & Treasurer.   Please let us know if you are interested in one of these positions.

We look forward to seeing you on the 18th!

Sincerely,

Important information for the Fall:

Fundraising at Runnymede

Our SIMPLIFIED fundraising strategy was a success last year: we raised $71,440! So, this year we will do it again. Donation envelopes will be distributed in October for parents to return with a recommended per-child donation of $50. We thank you and look forward to your support of our simplified fundraising!

Additionally, the school receives a percentage of sales from QSP Magazines. If you need magazines, please visit the school website under Hot Topics to make your purchase and support the school at the same time!

Pizza Lunch Program

Every year, dedicated volunteers organize a monthly pizza lunch for any students who wish to participate in this excellent break from lunch box blues.  A link will be available next week for enrolment in this fundraising event.

Lost & Found Process

Lost & Found is located on the main floor outside of Room 126.  Please talk with your children about keeping track of their belongings but also please be aware that items can go missing through no fault of your child!  It will be easier to find lost items – especially lunch bags – if you label items with your child’s name and classroom number. Want to help with the Lost & Found?  Please contact us at runnymedeps@gmail.com and we’ll direct you to the Lost & Found team.
