Parent Council Vacancies for 2018/19

At Runnymede Public School we are very fortunate to have an active and thriving Parent Council.  Council is involved in many fun activities throughout the school year, whether they’re for fundraising or community-building.

help-wanted-2We cannot run a great Council without great parents.  At this time, we have a number of Council positions becoming vacant as the current members are reaching the end of their terms.

Below is a list of the available positions. We encourage you to consider a role, and please feel free to speak to the outgoing member, to get a better sense of what is involved.

EXECUTIVE COUNCIL POSITIONS:

Co-Chair, Parent Council
The Chair or Co-Chair(s) will be responsible for conducting all Council & Executive Council meetings; will report annually to the school community via the website, email and annual report; will be an ad hoc member of all Council committees; and will perform all other duties required of the office. The goal is to provide a respectful forum to discuss and address Council-relevant topics, to ensure meetings are conducted in a timely manner and to liaise with school administration.  We are seeking one Co-Chair to work alongside Anh Truong.
(Time commitment: 6-8 hours per month)
For more information, please speak to incumbents: Greg Kerr or Anh Truong

Secretary
Keep minutes of Council meetings, have charge of all correspondence of the Executive and the Council and be responsible for notices of all Council meetings.  Prepare and distribute agenda (& other materials as needed), take notes, prepare and circulate meeting minutes.
(Time commitment: 5 hours per month)
For more information, please speak to incumbent: Archana Mathew

Communications Committee Co-Chair
Communications works behind the scenes, keeping Runnymede parents up-to-date on what’s happening at school.  We run the website, e-mail program and produce the monthly newsletters.  We are seeking two (or more!) Co-Chairs who would be willing to lead the communications team this year.
(Time commitment: 6 hours per month)
For more information, please speak to incumbents: Ingrid Larsen or Danielle DeLaurier

GENERAL POSITIONS:

Kinder Pizza Lunch Coordinator
Pizza Lunch is Runnymede’s favourite monthly event! Help organize class lists, pizza orders, volunteers and the logistics of serving pizza to Kinder classrooms once per month.  Generous compensation (in the form of pizza) provided.
(Time commitment: 2-3 hours per month)
For more information, please speak to incumbent: Danielle Kaftarian

Lost & Found Volunteer
Join a small team of parent volunteers who collect and sort lost items around school property.  At designated times (once per month) arrange for items to be donated to local charity.
(Time commitment: 1-2 hours per month)
For more information, please speak to coordinator: Anh Truong

Parent Reps
We are seeking Parent Reps for every K-5 class.  Parent Reps help keep parents and Council well-connected and help boost participation at Council events.  Reps are also Council Members.
(Time commitment: 1 hour per month)
If you would like to be a Parent Rep for your child’s class please send an email to:  Anh Truong

Committee Members
All of our Parent Council committees welcome new members with great ideas and a willingness to help.  Meet fellow Runnymede parents and find an occasional role that matches the number of volunteer hours you have to give.  Read more about volunteering at the school here.

This is a school-wide callout for Parents to join any one of these roles.  You do not require experience; simply a desire to get involved and in return, you get to be part of a great team at your child’s school!

Thank you,

Chair Greg Kerr
Co-Chair Anh Truong

Thank You Runnymede!

Runnymede Fun Run – Thursday June 14th

All students will be participating in a fun run to show their commitment to being active for themselves and for the local community.  This year Ogden school will be the focus of our support, to demonstrate how our children can be active in supporting others within their own TDSB community.

change for changeChange for Change!
Send in your loonies and toonies!
We will be collecting money in front of the office and on race day. Let’s see how much our community can raise to help our neighbours!

Fun Run Times
All parents are welcome to come out on Thursday June 14th to cheer on Runnymede students! The fun run will follow a similar format to the Terry Fox Run:

Grade 1 and 2:      9:15 – 9:40 am
Grade 3, 4, 5:        9:55 – 10:35 am
Grade 6, 7, 8:        10:55 – 11:25 am
JK/SK:                    12:45 – 1pm

Ogden schoolThe Fun Run event is raising money to help support Ogden School, a TDSB school located in downtown Toronto. Ogden has a large immigrant and public housing population and previously benefited from some model funding, but they lost their model funding this year.

Money raised will be used to help purchase a basketball hoop for their playground and also to help with field trip assistance.  The Ogden Parent Council is very appreciative of Runnymede’s support.
