Summer is Here!

Summer has arrived, and what a year. Congratulations to all Runnymede students on another amazing year. Need evidence of its amazingness? Check out the school’s most recent Rapport newsletter – lots of fantastic stuff going on!

Also check out the back page for a listing of teachers and rooms for the fall.

The council would like to thank all of our amazing volunteers, parents and staff alike, for helping to make the 2011-2012 school year a great success for the Council and, indeed, for all of Runnymede.

Families joining Runnymede for the first time in September – welcome! We look forward to meeting you in the fall. Over the summer, we plan to add more information to this website for new families… so what’s on your minds? What questions do you have as your child enters our school? Let us know and we’ll do our best to feature the answers here soon.

What's Up With the Field?

As the warm weather settles in many of us have been wondering when the fences will be removed and the field at Runnymede will be available to our children again. The short answer to this is September. The reason? The grass has needed this time to fully root and we all want the field to be in tip top shape for the new school year in the fall. Making it available to the public, clubs and other users in the summer would certainly have an impact on it for our children when school begins again. Unfortunately there have been times when sections of the fence have been pushed down but the staff at Runnymede continue to address this immediately and we appreciate all of their efforts. Thank you all for your patience and understanding.

Thank You for Your Generous Support in 2011-2012

The School Council wishes to thank everyone in the Runnymede community who helped us raise more than $65,000 this year. In every case, our fundraising events and efforts brought in more money than forecasted for the year. These included:

  • The Spring Thaw Art Show and FUNdraiser raised more than $4,000
  • Pub Night and Silent Auction doubled our expectations, bringing in almost $11,000
  • You sent in more than $30,000 directly to our donation-only drive!

We are absolutely thrilled to have this level of support from our community, allowing us to give back to the school more than ever before. Please visit our Where the Money Goes page to find out about the amazing ways that your money is being put to good use for the benefit of our children.

2012-2013 TDSB Budget

Please read the attached document for information about the final approved TDSB 2012-2013 budget and how it affects us in Ward 7.

At Runnymede, because we only half-day kindergarten programs, we will unfortunately lose all of our Educational Assistants (EAs) in 2012/13 from the JK/SK Kindergarten classrooms where English is the language of instruction. [The province provides funding for EAs in full-day, but not half-day, kindergarten classrooms. In the past the TDSB found the resources to do so, but this line-item was cut from the 2012-13 budget.]

While the province does pay for EAs to support language instruction in FI-kindergarten classrooms, there is a shortfall here too. Runnymede PS will have 3 half-day SK-FI classrooms of students in 2012-13, but EA staffing will be reduced to only cover 2 classrooms.
