FDK Arts Enrichment at Runnymede PS

Art in Action visited JK/SK classrooms where students were inspired by legendary Canadian artist Ted Harrison who made his home in the Yukon.

His love of the Canadian North is reflected in his iconic style of horizontal sections made up of brilliant colours.

Students also learned about the meaning, symbolism, and use of Inukshuks and worked with a wide variety of chaltek pastels, acrylic paint and collage materials to create their own great works of art in the style of Ted Harrison.

We are so fortunate to have The Arts Enrichment Program in our class this afternoon which is funded by the generous donations of Runnymede parents. MERCI BEAUCOUP! 😀 nous sommes des vrais artistes!! 🎨

Runnymede Success at the FIRST LEGO League Competition

The 2016-17 Runnymede Robotics team had an exciting competition at the TDSB’s FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Tournament in late December. The theme for 2016/17 was “Animal Allies”, and the teams chose to study species that live in High Park: the Coywolf and the Bee. Students wanted to research animals in our own ‘backyard’.

fll7 With finished Bee and Coywolf projects in hand, both teams proudly presented their Executive Robot Summary describing their strategies for missions, their robot design and their unique programming.

They also completed a core value challenge and discussed where they used their core values (Coopertition® and Gracious Professionalism®) this year. The coaches and mentors were proud to see the teams work together so seamlessly to finish some difficult core value games while respecting every individual, working as a team, and having fun.

fll3 The Cyberbolts got callbacks for all of 3 of their presentations, and the Positive Vibes got 2 callbacks! During lunch, both teams worked hard to fine tune programs and rebuild attachments to be ready for the robot matches. They barely sat down to eat lunch!

At the end of the long day, we were proud to see our teams do so well. The Positive Vibes won “Most Inspirational Team” and the Cyberbolts won “Best Programming.”

The Cyberbolts placed 2nd out of 28 teams, and go on to the Provincial Championships!

Runnymede’s FLL teams are possible because of parent volunteers working with sponsor teachers using funds allocated by Parent Council.

Welcome 2016/17 Parent Council Executives

On Thursday, September 22, 2016, a new Parent Council was established and our Council Executives were voted in.

Our Parent Council Committees and Executives work to organize and deliver the fundraising activities and enrichment programs that make Runnymede PS a special community. As always, your help and support are needed and appreciated. You can join a committee, volunteer to help with pizza lunches, spirit events, yard days, arts and STEM programs or work with our Communications Committee to bring fresh ideas and new ways of connecting with the RPS community. Everyone is welcome and no job is too small.

Curriculum Night, From Principal Hochberg

This years Meet the Teacher night will take place on Thursday September 15th.

Meet the Teacher is a chance for parents / guardians to meet their child(rens) teachers and gain an understanding of the classroom program and structure for the school year. Rotary teachers will be available throughout the evening in the Library. We will post classroom locations throughout the main floor of the school.

Babysitting will not be provided during this event. You may choose to attend with or without your children.
