The Kindergarten – Grade 5 Arts Enrichment classes are in full swing!

Over the past three weeks 700 Runnymede students have created original art work in the style of renowned artists from Canada and beyond.

Facilitated by Sara Fritzlar and Tania Swann of Art in Action, students are learning fine art techniques while incorporating grade-specific elements of design (line, shape, form, space, colour, texture and value).  Each student is creating original art, which varies in complexity and composition according to grade.

Here is a sneak peek in advance of the big reveal at Nuit Orange in January.

Funding for these art classes is provided by Parent Council, and made possible by your generous Direct Donations.
Thank you Runnymede families for supporting the arts at our school!

Kindergarten Spring Gallery Walk and Grade 3 Photography Exhibit

My Invitation (2)
The Kindergarten Spring Gallery Walk and Grade 3 Photo Exhibit and Silent Auction at Maison Fou Brasserie was a huge success!  Thank you to the many Runnymede families that came by to take a look.

FDK and Impressionism

The inspiration for the art work was Claude Monet.  Young artists learned about “impressionism” as well as Claude Monet.  Students worked with oil pastels to create a watercolour resist, pulling out clouds with tissue and using acrylic paint to create the sense of flowers blowing the in the wind to create an “impressionist”  style painting

Grade 3 Photography

Gr. 3 students experimented with artistic composition in photography. Students looked for contrast and interesting composition within the frame. They experimented with wide and medium angles, close ups, as well as texture and pattern. Each class was given a different subject to explore– (i.e. lines, circles, squares/rectangles etc).

Thank you for celebrating spring with Runnymede’s young artists and their families!

FDK Arts Enrichment at Runnymede PS

Art in Action visited JK/SK classrooms where students were inspired by legendary Canadian artist Ted Harrison who made his home in the Yukon.

His love of the Canadian North is reflected in his iconic style of horizontal sections made up of brilliant colours.

Students also learned about the meaning, symbolism, and use of Inukshuks and worked with a wide variety of chaltek pastels, acrylic paint and collage materials to create their own great works of art in the style of Ted Harrison.

We are so fortunate to have The Arts Enrichment Program in our class this afternoon which is funded by the generous donations of Runnymede parents. MERCI BEAUCOUP! 😀 nous sommes des vrais artistes!! 🎨
